       NAUTICAL STARThe
nautical star is a very old modern tattoo, going back at least a
century or more. Back in the days of yore, before modern navigation,
sailors would navigate in part by the stars in the night skies, in
particular the North Star in the Northern Hemisphere, and various other
constellations of stars in the night sky. In the Southern Hemisphere,
sailors had to use different stars and the Southern Cross became quite
well-known. Sailors would then tattoo nautical stars on them because
they relied on the stars to take them home, and being superstitious,
they hoped their star tattoos would get them home safely as well. Compass
stars are also popular for this reason. The nautical stars were
originally used by sailors to help guide their way as they sailed
through the night. They relied upon the stars to protect them and bring
them home safely. A
lot of soldiers get nautical stars for the same reason...protection. It
is a symbol of protection and guidance. It was a very popular tattoo
among sailors. So
a case could be made that the nautical star tattoo, or a tattoo of any
star for that matter, would be a symbol of guidance. Now as time has
passed the nautical stars represent the direction of one's life, for
those of us who are not sailors but still need guidance. Some say that if the nautical star is pointed upwards they have a higher outlook on life and so on. The meaning of the Nautical star is to create your own path, but use the stars as a guide.
All of this backround information just to tell you that this is my new tattoo! What a perfect match for me and what is going on in my life continously. The wind may blow many ways but no matter what your still going in a direction...

| So here is a little better update for all ya out there. I am bord at work and time is lagin' so I figured i'll try to do someting consructive. Life here is very interesting for me. I wouldn't of think that I would be here in hawaii going to school and making so many friends. I think about it almost everyday, on how much my life has changed... I have some amazing friends over here. I have so many different groups that I hang out with. But the ones that I have been hanging out with the most is the military crews. Thats one thing on this island we have soo many military people. Recently i have been mostly with a bunch a friends in the navy. It is soo much fun with them. I am basicly the only "civilian" that hangs out with them. I go on the military bases so much now and i love it. This past week I actually got to go on a battle ship to drop off some x-mas gifts and it was so great. Yesterday I was hanging out with the navy band and we had so much stinkin fun...wow, what a good time. I got invited to go to the navy bands x-mas party on base, on monday. I also got asked to sing with the mens barbershop because they don't have a bass (did i menton that i would get paid?) It is such an honor just for them to ask me that. Another guy had offered me a job at the workout facility on base and he offered me such a high pay too. So i am looking into that when i come back from winter vacation. Also (i feel like i am talking forever..haha) if I do taking the job or jobs I have got an offer to stay with a friend in their house. My own room, bathroom, parking stall (hard to come by in hawaii) for less than I am paying for my shared apt now... I love it when everything falls into place for me without having to try at all. So I tell you all of this to prepare you for this...I am going threw an application process to be enlisted...dunn dun duuunnn. Now don't be scared. I am going to finish up my undergraduate here in hawaii. This application is to go to the navy medical school. I would be enlisted as an officer. All school paid for and I would only have a 6 year commitment. I am very, very excited for this to be a part of this process right now. Alright that is enough for now. Hopefully you feel a little caught up with my life. I will probably post some more soon, once i get home. Since i'll have more time on my hands. | | |
